Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back Mr Tunchon
Next week we will welcome back Mr Tunchon, who has been on Leave for the past eight weeks. He had a much deserved break and will return refreshed and rejuvenated ready to tackle what the remainder of Term 2 has to offer. While Mr Tunchon has been away, Miss Emma Bowen has been a part of the Leadership Team, assisting where required, we thank her for her wonderful efforts. We also thank Mrs Karen Davis for stepping in to cover for Miss Bowen in Year 1.

First Eucharist Retreat Day (Year 4)
On Thursday our Year 4 students and teachers participated in their First Eucharist Retreat Day at the Bill Hemsley Centre in White Peak. Thank you to Miss Ahearn, Mrs Smith, Mrs Waldock and Mrs Sumner for organising this special day to help our children begin to learn about why baptised Catholics receive Jesus in the form of Holy Communion when they attend Mass.
School Photos
A reminder that school photos will take place next week on Wednesday 8th and Thursday 9th May. Information from MSP Photography was sent home earlier in the term. Please see the Admin News section for the Photo Schedule.
Recycling Initiative
During Term 1, as a part of our Student Council Meetings, Inès (Head Girl) tabled a proposal to recycle juice boxes in our school. Along with help from Flynn (Head Boy) they researched how many of these items are thrown in the bin. They calculated that as a school we bin approximately 300 per week, that works out to about 12,000 items per year. After presenting their idea at the first Ministry Assembly, catchment crates were placed on each rubbish bin. After only one week, we have completely filled a 240L 'Wheelie Bin'. This is another fantastic example of putting an idea into action, well done to Inès and Flynn and the students of STLPS who are supporting this initiative by placing their juice boxes in the appropriate bins.
Australian Early Development Census (AEDC) - Pre Primary
From May 2024, our school, along with thousands of others across the country, will participate in the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC). The AEDC is a teacher-completed census (similar to a questionnaire) which provides a comprehensive picture of how children have developed by the time they start their first year of full-time school. The AEDC is an Australian Government Initiative and is completed nationally every three years. The data collected through the AEDC is used by schools, communities and governments to better understand children and families’ needs, and identify the services, resources and support they need. AEDC data is reported at a school, community, state/territory and national level. AEDC results for individual children are not reported and the AEDC is not used as an individual diagnostic tool. To find out more about the AEDC and how it is being used to help children and families visit: www.aedc.gov.au.

Fruit of the Spirit Focus - Self Control
It is the active effort we put forth to resist the temptation to go back to the ways of the world around us once we’ve been shown God’s spiritual way of life. It is demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit instead of committing the works of the flesh (Galatians 5:19-23).
