Dear Parents and Guardians,
As we hit the half way mark of Term 3, I ask you to keep in your thoughts and prayers for a couple of student groups from our school community. Firstly, our cast of 60 children and their teachers from the Lion King JR, with only 2 weeks to go the pressure is sure on. Secondly, our 54 Confirmation Candidates in Year 6 as their preparation continues for the Sacrament to be held on Thursday 7 September. Thirdly, our Year 1's as they prepare to entertain the crowd at this year's Chapman Valley Show on Saturday 2 September. And finally all of our athletes who have made the interschool teams in cross country or athletics, may you work hard and enjoy your preparation for your personal and team events.
STEM Showcase
Last week the Year 5/6 classes completed their STEM projects which went on display for our school open night. 20 projects were chosen to represent St Lawrence's at the Nagle showcase on Friday 11 August. Congratulations to all students for your creative thinking and trying to better our community with your unique designs.
St Lawrence's Feast Day and Open Night
Thank you to the many families who attended our school open night last Thursday evening. The classrooms were vibrant and full of student learning. I witnessed many students proudly showing their parents the great work they have produced or are still working on.
Athletics Carnival
Congratulations to all students who have competed in this week's Athletics Carnival. 2 days of competitive action leads to the main carnival tomorrow on our school oval. Thank you to the coordinators Mr Gaby and Mrs Burro, teachers and parent helpers for such a busy week. To all of our students who gave it their best working towards team points for their faction. The final results will be available in the days to come.
New Aussie
Congratulations to Chris (PPG) and Leonardo's (Kindy Puggles) dad, Cong, who recently became an Australian Citizen. Below is a photo of Cong receiving his Australian Citizenship from Mayor Shane Van Styn and Lara Dalton MLA.
New Student
We welcome Zion and her family to St Lawrence's. This week Zion has started in PPG. We hope you settle in to your new life here in Geraldton.
2023 Awards of Excellence
Congratulations to Heidi Teakle who was one of twelve finalists at this year's CSPWA awards of excellence. The awards were held in Perth on Friday 11 August. I nominated Heidi for this year's award for the work she has done for our school (mostly behind the scenes) over the last 2 years.
The St Lawrence's Parish was also nominated for the work they do with the school community. I nominated Fr Gerard and the parish because of the close ties we have with each other working together for the good of the St Lawrence's Community. I am most excited to announce that the St Lawrence's Parish won the award. What an outstanding result. I will be presenting Father Gerard with the award at Sunday Mass this weekend.
