Welcome to the Catholic Church Elisha.
Staff Professional Development Day
On Monday 24 April all staff were involved in Professional Development training. Teachers worked with Leadership in forming descriptors for the upcoming Semester 1 reports. Other staff worked with Mr Simon Place from CEWA on Accreditation particularly looking at our Catholic Sacraments. Professional Learning Days like these are extremely important in our staff development and continued education.
Holiday work
Have you check out the handiwork our ground staff have built over the holidays - a new arbour in the Kindy area. Very flash Mr and Mrs Shaddy.
ANZAC Day
On Tuesday 25 April our head boy and girl - Thea and Wesley attended the ANZAC Day Ceremony with me at Birdwood House. Here they represented the school, laying a wreath remembering the many fallen service men and women that have fallen over the years and those who are still serving today.
Today Mrs Heyhoe and 5B led the school in our own ANZAC Day service. Thank you for those who attended this solemn occasion.
We will remember them.
Past Student and Staff Member
Today at St Lawrence's Church, a funeral was held for past student and teacher - Mrs Rita Farrell (Kupsch). Rita was a student at St Lawrence's from 1945-1949 and then became the first lay teacher at St Lawrence's. She started teaching in 1971 when the school had an enrolment of 208 students. The Principal at the time was Sr Felix. She has been described as a highly respected and much - loved human being. She was a great educator, a very supportive colleague and loyal friend. Leadership and other staff members represented the school at today's funeral.
May she rest in peace.
Practicum Student
We welcome Bianca Oliveri (Yes - Louise's daughter) to St Lawrence's for the next 10 weeks as she completes her university practicum in Year 1G. I am sure she will find the learning and experience memorable and very worthwhile as she trains to become a primary school teacher.

Fruit of the Spirit Focus: Trustfulness
We always show that we are loyal to ourselves and others; we do not share the confidences of our friends and we are reliable when following responsibilities given to us through to completion.
Term Two Sacramental Program: First Eucharist (First Holy Communion)
Holy Communion unites people with Jesus in a special way.
Receiving Jesus for the first time is a very special occasion. First Eucharist or more colloquially First Holy Communion is a key step in the initiation of a person into the community of the church. The whole parish community comes together to celebrate with the family and to welcome the new communicant, the person receiving Communion.
First Holy Communion is the beginning of a special journey of intimate lifelong connection and friendship with Jesus. When people receive Jesus in the Eucharist he nourishes and strengthens them to live good lives. The word ‘communion’ means to be united with someone. Catholics believe that in Holy Communion people are united in a special way with Jesus. At first, the Eucharist was called the ‘Breaking of Bread’ [Acts 2:42, 46]. It was also called ‘the Lord’s Supper’ [1 Corinthians 11:20]. Today it is often referred to as ‘the Mass’.
The word Eucharist can refer to one or more of several interconnected things:
- the complete celebration of Mass
- the Body of Christ received in Holy Communion
- the whole role of the sacrament in the life of the Church
‘Eucharist’ and ‘Mass’, are used interchangeably
Holy Communion and the whole celebration of the Mass is also known as the Eucharist.
Eucharist is from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving.
Catholics believe that by participating in Mass and receiving Jesus, they become Jesus in the world today.
