Year 6 Fun Week
Year 6 staff, specialists and the leadership team met last week to discuss and start to plan the Year 6 Fun Week to replace the camp they missed in Term 2. The week has been set aside for Week 2 Term 4 starting on the 19 October and concluding on 23 October. Year 6 students and parents have also been invited to contribute ideas to the week that we hope will be full of fun, adventure, learning and collaboration. By the end of the term, we hope to have the final program finalised.
Sports Carnival
In this week’s newsletter you will find all the results from our annual sports carnival. It was a fabulous week made easier with no wet weather throughout the week. Congratulations to all students who participated especially for your cheering, sportsmanship and just for enjoying the day and great atmosphere.
I would like to acknowledge the St Lawrence staff and parents who arrived at 7am to help set up. The staff worked tirelessly all-day supervising in the bays, scoring, first aid, place judges, coaches eye, ribbons, and serving at the canteen. Thanks to the ground staff for always making our oval look so good and marking out the lines and spaces needed.
I would especially like to congratulate our parents this year, adjusting to our ticketing system and cooperating and abiding by social distancing rules. We were so fortunate to allow parents onsite to attend this year’s carnival.
Finally, I would like to thank and congratulate our Health and Physical Education staff Mr Stuart Gaby and Mrs Karen Burro for the many hours they spent in preparation and then delivering such a successful carnival. St Lawrence’s are very fortunate to have you on staff.
Feast of St Teresa of Calcutta
Tomorrow September 5, we celebrate and remember St Teresa of Calcutta who was Canonized in 2016. Nun and missionary Mother Teresa, known as Saint Teresa of Calcutta, devoted her life to caring for the sick and poor. Born in Macedonia to parents of Albanian-descent and having taught in India for 17 years, Mother Teresa experienced her "call within a call" in 1946. Her order established a hospice; centers for the blind, aged and disabled; and a leper colony.
Please keep her in your prayers tomorrow.
Religious Education
Thursday September 10: Father Robert O’Bryan will celebrate Reconciliation with the Year six students so that they are in a ‘state of grace’ before they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation.
Please keep our Year Six Confirmation Candidates in your prayers as they finish their preparation to receive this Sacrament.
Prayer for Confirmation Candidates
Lord, You send out Your Spirit to touch the hearts of all people,
so that they may believe in You and in Jesus whom You sent.
Look kindly on all candidates for Confirmation as they listen to Your voice.
Open their hearts to Your Spirit and bring to fulfilment the good work that You have begun in them.
Amen

6J Monday 14 September @ 6:00pm
6K Wednesday 16 September @ 6:00pm

The Sacrament of Confirmation Masses will be celebrated by Bishop Michael Morrissey and Father Robert O’Bryan. (Bishop’s bestow the Sacrament of Confirmation)
These will all occur in the St Lawrence’s Church, Bluff Point and due to COVID 19 the following changes will need to be followed:
• Confirmation Candidates only will be attending these masses with their families.
• Each candidate can have four guests – one of whom is their sponsor (or a proxy – stand in for their sponsor).
• Each student will have their own family pew leaving a spare pew in between other family groups.
• All people entering the church must hand sanitise on their way in.
• There will be no collections during Mass, the collection baskets will be placed at the back of the church for you to place your donations in as you leave Mass.
• The sign of peace is just an acknowledgement – we no longer shake hands.
• Communion – Receiving communion has also changed, communion is only under one kind – the body of Christ. The Bishop/Father will invite each section of the church to come forward one at a time to allow for social distancing to occur.
• Mrs Hart will play the music for each Mass, but to allow candidates to have maximum guests there will be no students in the choir.
• A photographer has been booked and taken into consideration for church numbers.
• St Lawrence’s school staff will not be able to attend due to number limitations.
• Special event – this is a special evening for our Confirmation candidates, and we ask that they are appropriately dressed to reflect the importance of this occasion.

This years Athletics Carnival week was a great success. Not only because the weather was kind to us all week (for once!) but because of the amazing sportsmanship shown by all students. There were a few minor changes to the main carnival format to allow for maximum participation by all students and this resulted in everyone having a busy and exciting day. Thank you to the parents for your understanding and following the procedures regarding the two sessions.
