Newsletter 9 - 9 June
Principal's Page
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Long Service Leave
Tomorrow will be my last day at St Lawrence's for a while. I will be heading off on some long service leave for the next 8 weeks. In my absence, Mrs Donna Kempton will step into the position of Acting Principal for the remainder of the term. Mr Damien O'Malley will be Acting Principal for the first 3 weeks of Term 3. I hope to spend some quality time with family in Sydney and Melbourne as well as spend some R&R on a beach somewhere in the tropics.
Staffing News
Congratulations to Kassie Whitby who will return to St Lawrence's fulltime as the EA in PPB as Mrs Paula Roach heads off on retirement. Kassie has previously worked at St Lawrence’s and is very familiar with the routines of the school. It is wonderful to have her back at STLPS. She will be a great asset to PPB, and I am sure you will make her feel very welcome.
First Eucharist
Please keep our Year 4 students in your prayers as they prepare to make their First Holy Communion on Sunday, 19 June. This year it will be held on the feast of the Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ. Mass will be celebrated in the Undercover Area starting at 11am.
Swimming Lessons
Year 2 and Year 6 are now at the half way mark of their swimming lessons. From all accounts, it has been a very smooth start and I must congratulate every student who is participating. Keep up the good work.
Thank you to the many of you who are notifying the school early if your child is going to be away. This has made planning and staffing a lot easier to manage. I will continually instruct teachers to send any child that has Covid symptoms home immediately as we do with our own staff. Please continue to enforce those good hygiene practices as we navigate our way through this pandemic.
The State Government has delivered a box of 20 RATs for every child at St Lawrence's. If you have not collected yours yet, please drop into your child's classroom to pick them up.
Please keep your child at home if they present any flu symptoms and use the RATs provided to test your child if necessary.
Self-Reporting Form
Please continue to use the Self-Reporting Form as required as well as WA Health, These forms can be accessed via the links below:

This semester has been a very challenging one, with Covid causing significant student and school staff absences. As a consequence, there may be instances where teaching & learning and data from assessments have been impacted in some learning areas. Advice from CEWA and The School Curriculum and Standards Authority (SCSA) includes the acknowledgement that grades may not be possible in some circumstances due to absences. If you have any questions regarding Reports, please contact your child's Teacher.

The Disco!
The Undercover Area was transformed for the ‘Neon and Bright Lights Disco’ last Thursday and 360 children grooved their way into the extra-long weekend. Hopefully by now most of you have seen the photo display posted by the disco team in the Parent Information Group facebook page.
The Disco this term has been made possible again by the dedicated Disco Team lead by Nadine Smith. A very big thankyou to the Disco Mums and Dads who came together to form the subcommittee and assist on the night: Mirika Hall, Vanessa Heyhoe, Beau Campbell, Georgie Thomas, Leigh Jones, Javier McAllister, Jody Gould, Kylie Springett, Gerard Williamson, Marnie Phelps, Kristy Green, Deb Andrews, Ronelle Knight, Jess Hadley, Monika Proudlove, Larissa Dowie, Katie Kingdon, Natalie Partington, Kate Cassin, Leigh Golosky, Michelle Ralph, Jus Kenzler, Emilie Smith, Heidi Teakle, Sheree Barden, Sophie Seaton, Fiona Brennan, Elisha Criddle, Ainsley Smith, Charlotte Criddle, Megan Cockerill, Lucy and Sophie Brennan, Sam Heirich and Julie Driscoll.
A big thankyou to our Year 7 Nagle students who assisted and earned service hours towards their Christian Service Learning program for ‘giving back’ to their old Primary School.
A big thankyou to ‘DJ Dad’ Leigh Jones for compiling all of those song requests and ensuring the kids could groove to ‘their song’. Thanks also to Ash at Opus Music for the disco lights and sound equipment.
I would like to acknowledge the generosity and support from our sponsors for the disco: The Beached Barrel, Connolly Creative Construction, Art Gecko Designs, Jason Smith, and Annette and Tom Tomlins.
And lastly, a very big thankyou to all of our parents for supporting this P&F event by taking the time to bring your children to the disco to have fun with their friends. This kind of support shows how strong our school community is.
Save the Date – Carols on the Green
As I mentioned in the Week 3 newsletter, the date for the Carols on the Green this year has been changed to Thursday 24th November - Week 8 of Term 4. Save the date on your calendars. We are looking for interested people to join the COG Subcommittee as we are hoping to add some additions to the evening. We are also looking to handover the very popular Grazing Boxes coordination and production to a new team. Vanessa and Lara are stepping away this year but are very willing to help and advise the new coordinators. If you and a friend think this might be something for you to take over, please don’t hesitate to get in touch with myself, Vanessa Heinrich or Lara Campbell. The Grazing Boxes are such a wonderful part of the evening and we would love to keep them going. We are also hoping to revive the Choc Luck Stall to the evening. Some of you may remember this stall from Fetes gone by. We are looking for someone to coordinate this stall. Again if you think this stall sounds like your thing, encourage a friend to help and get in touch.
Term 3 Events
At this stage there are not any major fundraising events scheduled by us for Term 3. The next event will be the Carols on the Green.
Next Meeting – Monday 13th June
Next meeting is Week 8 Monday 13th June at 4.30pm in the Staffroom. If you have agenda items and would like an item raised, please get in contact with me. You will need to attend the meeting if you wish for your item to be discussed. Everyone is welcome as you are all members of the P&F (you have paid your levy in your school fees). We would love your company and hope to see you Monday.
Stay safe and healthy everyone, and enjoy the rest of the term.
Kind regards,
Julie O’Malley
President
