Newsletter 3 - 3 March 2022

Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Season of Lent
Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. During Lent, we seek the Lord in prayer by reading Sacred Scripture; we serve by giving alms and we practice self-control through fasting. We are called not only to abstain from luxuries during Lent, but to a true inner conversion of heart as we seek to follow Christ's will more faithfully. We recall the waters of baptism in which we were also baptized into Christ's death, died to sin and evil, and began new life in Christ.
Practicums and Workplace Students
Presently we have a number of students completing their practicums and workplace in various parts of the school:
- Congratulations to Miss Mila Hendren-Krippner who completed her 4 week teacher block in 1B last week. She will be back in Term 3 to complete the next lot.
- Nagle Workplace students Max C, Travis K and Tahlia S are at school each Monday in either Health and PE or in Year 1.
- Lani Edwards and Kate Snow are completing their EA practicum placements on Wednesday and Thursday in PPB and PPT.
St Lawrence's is very happy to able assist in the development of future EA's and teachers. Thank you to those teachers who have taken these students under their wing in order to help the development of these students.
Staff Professional Learning
Tomorrow the St Lawrence's staff will participate in a day of professional learning. Trish Chivilo, our speech pathologist, will run a session with staff on Developmental Language Disorder. Staff will also have the opportunity to upskill their knowledge by participating in online Seesaw tutorials and working with Sharon MacDonald, our office manager, on new features in our SEQTA suite. I would like to thank the St Lawrence's staff for the continuation of self-improvement for the benefit of all children at our school.
Service Station Proposal
The school has received notification of a proposal to rebuild the service station at 381 Chapman Road Bluff Point.
- The site has previously been used as a service station
- Proposal is to utilise a portion of the existing service station footprint
- Proposal includes a drive through coffee lane and window. Opening hours for the drive through coffee service will be 5.30am to 5.30pm.
More details about the proposal are available at council officers or visit their website. www.cgg.wa.gov.au/consultations
Thank you to parents, students and staff for working with us over these last couple of weeks as we navigate our way through the day to day changes that Covid brings. Thank you to those adults who now have masks on when they enter the school and to those children who are giving masks ago.
In the mornings, please do not drop children off at school until after 8.15am when supervision commences. Children are to sit on the benches outside their classroom until the 8.30am bell goes.
We have noticed the kiss and drop areas are getting busier so we have made and sent home family name signs for cars to display as they approach the kiss and drop areas.
Due to regulations introduced state wide, the following school events have either been postponed or cancelled for Term 1:
- Parents attending school assemblies - cancelled until further notice (we will record and share each assembly)
- Year 5 Family Mass - cancelled
- School Open Night and Welcome BBQ - cancelled
- Year 6 Camp and Parent Info Meeting- postponed to Term 4
