Welcome to the first edition of our new look newsletter. We hope you find the new look easier to navigate through. We want to be able to share the many stories, news and events that have happened or are coming up in an easy read format for you to enjoy. In the coming weeks, look out for the new app that will accompany the newsletter and our school calendar.
St Lawrence's Feast Day and 80 Years
Last week St Lawrence’s celebrated its Feast Day and 80 years birthday. Thank you to the organising committee for putting together a fun packed week. The staff and students really enjoyed the prayer service, dress up day, tabloid sports, cup cakes and icy poles. Special thanks to Thomas Shadforth who was able to capture the whole school on the oval using his drone. Special thanks also to our Mrs Proudlove, Year 4 students and P&F for presenting the school with a unique art piece to hang in the school’s foyer.
Athletics Carnival
Today we ran our annual school athletics carnival. I would like to congratulate all students for your participation and sportsmanship shown throughout the day. Thank you to Mrs Burro and Mr Gaby for the many hours in preparing for the carnival. Thank you to all parents who made the adjustment of attending the morning or afternoon sessions and practiced social distancing throughout the day. All results will be published in our next newsletter.
Aboriginal Education Assistant
Congratulations to Dayne Cox who was the successful applicant as our new Aboriginal Education Assistant. Dayne will work in a variety of year levels throughout the week. We welcome her to the St Lawrence community. Congratulations Dayne.
Father Gerard
I received a lovely email from Father Gerard last week. Unfortunately, his flight was once again cancelled, and he is now spending summer in Rome. He was able to visit the Basilica of St Lawrence and prayed for us on our Feast Day at St Lawrence’s tomb located under the main alter. We hope to see Father Gerard return safely to us in September.
2020 Randolph Stow Young Writers Award
Congratulations to Kallan B from 6J for gaining 'Highly Commended' at this years prestigious Randolph Stow Young Writers Award. Kallan wrote a terrific story titled ‘Strike’ which was described as fast paced and action packed. The award was presented last night at Geraldton Senior High School. The town library received 820 entries this year. Congratulations Kallan.
Religious Education
Feast Day Celebration
On Monday August 10 our school celebrated the Feast of St Lawrence with a prayer service lead by our Year Six Gummer Ministry students. We also viewed a short history of the school as part of our 80 years of education celebrations. We all learnt that small beginnings can lead to much bigger and greater things in the future.

P&F News
Our P&F Meeting was held on Monday afternoon and we would like to update everyone with some of the agenda items that were discussed at the meeting:
Platform Markets – Lolly Stall and Cool drinks
Firstly, we would like to thank all of those people from our school community who offered their
support with purchases from the stall the P&F set up at the Platform Market in the July holidays. We are very happy to report that the lollies that were bought with the donated monies from our Pre Primary parents for the Fete Lolly Stall, have now been sold. Thank you to Narelle Teakle for her time and effort in preparing the lollies for sale at the Markets. We are also pleased to report that the donated cool drinks have all been sold.
Raffle Donation Hampers
As posted in the Facebook Group in the holidays, all of the perishable items and some of the toys
donated for the Raffles Stall were put together as hampers. We were able to create 18 hampers to
make available for purchase. These hampers are now all sold. Thankyou to Megan Desmond and Dee Watts who assisted with this. There are raffle donations left in the sea container that have been safely stored and will be utilised in an event planned for Term 4. Further details to come.
Planned Events
Due to COVID restrictions still being in place, we are sad to say there will not be any discos this year. The good news is that we are planning to hold Carols on the Green in Term 4, Monday 7th December – the last week of school. Stay tuned for news about this event - we want this evening to feel and look a little different this year and we will be seeking volunteers to help.
80th Celebration Art Piece
As acknowledged on the Facebook page and website, the P&F funded the framing of a stunning Art
work for the school’s birthday. Thankyou to Mrs Proudlove and the Year 4's for this timeless piece.
The NAIDOC Week theme for 2020 – ALWAYS WAS, ALWAYS WILL BE – was one that aligned to our 80th birthday, in what has been a significant year for all. You can view this art work in the school office.
Our next P&F Meeting is on 21st September and all are welcome.
Kind regards,
Julie O’Malley
P&F President
